All power equipment requires modulation, and the patch headphone jack and switching power supply are the same. Toggle switch In summary, there are four modulation methods for sockets and switching power supplies.

1. Hybrid modulation. It is a combination of methods three and four. Both the switching period and pulse width are not fixed and can be adjusted. It includes PWM controllers and PFM controllers.

2. Pulse Density Modulation (PDM). Its characteristic is a stable pulse width, and voltage regulation is achieved by adjusting the number of pulses. It uses zero-voltage technology, which can significantly reduce the loss of power switching transistors.

3. Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM). Its characteristic is a stable pulse width, and the duty cycle is changed by adjusting the switching frequency to achieve voltage regulation. The core is the PFM controller. PFM switching power supplies are especially suitable for portable devices, as they can reduce the static current of the control chip under low duty cycle and low frequency conditions.

4. Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). Its characteristic is a stable switching period and pulse width is adjusted to change the duty cycle to achieve voltage regulation. The core is the PWM controller. PWM modulation is the most widely used method for sockets and switching power supplies, with a large duty cycle adjustment range. PWM can also synchronize with the main system clock.
